ABOUT CHRIS

Chris Nelson is a 2007 graduate of Iowa State University with degrees in Agricultural Systems Technology, International Agriculture, and Entrepreneurial Studies who has returned to his home of Adair County as a third-generation farmer and an Ag Loan Officer at First National Bank in Fontanelle, Iowa. Prior to attending college, Chris grew up on his family’s cow-calf, row crop, and forage farm; as well as working with the family business, Nelson and Sons, providing forage equipment and services to area farmers. Chris graduated from West Central Valley High School in 2002 where he was active in FFA, 4-H, Boy Scouts, Science Fair, music, and church. Chris continued his activities and service throughout college participating in and providing leadership in student organizations including the ISU Agricultural Student Council, Alpha Zeta Agricultural Honor Society, Collegiate FFA, ISU Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative, ISU Career Fair Committee, ISU Ag Ambassador, and other student activities. Chris also served as a peer mentor to freshman and sophomore students in his academic department throughout his college career. Upon returning to Adair County after graduation, Chris presently continues to pursue his future in farming with his family and also works as an Ag Loan Officer at First National Bank. Chris currently serves as a director on the Adair County Farm Bureau Board and as secretary of the Adair County Cattlemen. In addition to farming and working in multiple functions of a forage equipment dealership (Nelson and Sons), Chris’s work experience includes working as a precision ag equipment specialist for John Deere, a host to international visitors as a representative with the ISU Ag Study Abroad Office, and guiding and educating incoming freshman at Iowa State University as a Cyclone Aide. Highlights of Chris’s achievements include attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, the American FFA Degree, Science Fair awards on local to international levels, graduating valedictorian of his high school class, and earning Dean’s List and honor societies’ recognition. Chris is running for the Iowa House of Representatives District 58 to serve Adair, Audubon, Guthrie, and Eastern Cass counties in the 2008 election.
